What's going on with Retail Sales?
Regardless of what the Media is reporting, United States Retail Sales contracted for 10 months in a row on an inflation adjusted basis. My friends, that spells a recession for our Retailers. See the chart below.
Retail Sales has been growing below the 30 year average of 2.06% for the past 21 months or since September 2022. The growth rate for May is less than 71% of the months over the past 30 years.
On the bright side, in April and now in May, we have started to recover from this Retail Sales recession. Sales are still contracting but by a lower rate. We only have two data points to show for this now. So, we will have to see how retail sales perform in June, to see if we have a new trend established.
